EVERYONE  READY  FOR  THE NEW  SEASON?            29/8/2011

There's a couple of things everyone should be aware of for the coming season.  All the details are on the AGM page of this Website, but here's some of the major ones you need to know.

NO  MEMBERSHIP  - NO  RACING - Get your Membership paid up.

SEALS - All cars MUST be sealed by the finish of their first race meeting for the season.  The Rule now reads -

RULES Series Articles 5.1.3 (c)    Series Seals

Affix seals as per Series Article 15

15.1 Provision for fitment of official seals….

All cars must have seals fitted on the Inlet Manifold, Engine, Gearbox, and  Final Drive Head before the completion of the first round in which the car competes, for each new season either by the Series Scrutineer or MSNZ Scrutineer

This means you are now responsible for ensuring your car is sealed either before the first race meeting, or by the end of the first race meeting.  For any queries contact Stu Hewer - 027447951

STARTING  PROCEEDURES

All cars will now start off the lights.  The Pro7 Plus cars in the leading grid, followed by the Pro7 Bat cars.  Then a 4 car grid gap to the Pro7 cars.

OFF SEASON PRO 7 ANTICS
The off season testing and warming up has begun, certainly in the lower part of the island any way. The second round of the Manfeild Winter Series saw two of next seasons intending competitors giving their new cars a shakedown.
Matt Carkeek took the opportunity to have a run in the ex Eric Sinton / Phil Blythe Pro 7 Plus Series 6. A few laps of testing on the Saturday gave some encouraging lap time results which neccessitated moving up from the "In Between Cup" grout to the "GT Cup" group. The organisers also talked Matt into entering the one hour mini enduro on the Sunday as well teamed up with Dad Terry.
It turned out to be a great result for a first outing with the Blue "Vortex Racewear" Pro 7 Plus car winning the enduro race. A great start, and certainly a happy result for the team with a brand new sponsor on board. You can check Matt's progress and updates out on the Vortex Racewear facebook page along with updates from other sponsored drivers.
Also competing in a new car and preparing for next seasons series was Jacob Channing in the ex Chris Guinin car. Freshened up and looking smart the car looked and sounded great. After some early problems with wheels and tyres Jacob quickly settled in to the car and certainly looked pretty racey particularly amongst traffic. I think we can look forward to seeing this car and driver team challenging for podium positions during the season.
There are three remaining rounds of the Manfeild winter series, each held on the first full weekend of the month. They are a great, low key event, run well and easily designed to fit into a one day format.

Hi All,   13/5/2011
Thank you to all that have contributed comment regarding the inlet manifold in question.

Technical Inspections Car 47 Phill Kerr.

After carefull consideration of all matters discussed, it is my decision that this has not been
done by an individual for performance enhancing or advantage.
I consider this to be a factory fault in the manufacturing process, with evidence that supports
this.

Car 47 - Phil Kerr has passed Technical Inspections post race & is deemed to be legal.

A big thank you to members of the TRB for their input

Summary:
I have possesion of the inlet manifold to which the club should retain for future reference.
I do not beleive the rule (Part B RX B5.2) needs to be changed or modified.
I have notified the Clerk of Course from Taupo IRC Round 6.

NIMRRA New Zealand Champs 2011 Round One

Saturday morning Qualifying, pretty much set what was to be the trend for the weekend.  Jarrod Parmenter qualified top on 1:14:657, followed by Blair Robertson (ex Phil ,Blythe Car) 1:16:311, Case Wortel (ex Eddie Bell car) 1:16:323, Brent Collins (ex Jeff Judd car) 1:16:379, Jason Corboy (ex Jason Corboy car) 1:16:417.  The top North Island car was Bob Smith on 1:16:451 followed by Brad Lathrop on 1:18;011, Matt Gibson, 1:18:158 and Terry Carkeek 1:18:542.  It looked like a bit of a trouncing was about to begin for the northern travelers.

Race One on Saturday afternoon was 6 laps.  Apart from first position which was really just a bit of a stroll for Jarrod, the rest of the field was embroiled in a series of torrid battles.  All pretty good hard but clean racing really with the finishing order behind Jarrod going; Brent Collins, Blair Robertson, Bob Smith Mal Walters and Case Wortel.  The next best placed North Island car was Brad Lathrop in 10th followed by Matt Gibson in 11th still struggling with brakes.

Race two was the reverse top ten grid and it really only took Jarrod a lap and a half to reach the front where he again settled in to a morning cup of tea at the wheel while he peeled off low 1:15 minute lap times on his way to another race win.  No such time to spare behind him though as the rest of the field battled for position in the reverse grid format.  On lap three Bob Smith found himself scuttled sideways at turn 5 eventually spinning out.  The officials decided that Blair Robertson was to blame for the incident and issued him with a drive through penalty.  Post race, Blair was not as convinced about the decision, but the marks on Bob’s car seemed to indicate that the officials may have got it right.

Next to exit the hard stuff was Brad Lathrop as he hooked a big second gear changing down for turn two and went around.  He recovered quickly to join an already three wide battle for honours out of turn three and proceeded on.  Final results here were; Jarrod Parmenter 1st, followed by Jason Corboy, Mal Walters, Brent Collins, Case Wortel, Daniel Taylor and then the recovered Brad Lathrop in 7th.  Matt Gibson finished 9th with Bob Smith managing to recover to 10th position.

Race three inevitably again turned into a Jarrod Parmenter benefit, but that was really the only position in the field that remained undisputed.  Huge battles raged between all the remaining competitors.  Unfortunately Brad Lathrop was this time on the receiving end of some contact and he was sent barreling of the outside of turn six, somehow managing to prevent a complete spin and rejoined several places down.

The finishing positions for race three were; 1st Jarrod Parmenter, followed by Brent Collins, Blair Robertson, Bob Smith, Mal Walters, Case Wortell, Daniel Taylor and Jason Corboy.  Brad Lathrop recovered to finish 10th ahead of Matt Gibson.

Results aside, it was a great weekend and the southern boys certainly made us all feel welcome.  The South Canterbury Car Club excelled themselves in the running of a very busy event and also the immaculate presentation of the circuit, the grounds and the facilities.

Round two of the New Zealand Champs is to be run in conjunction with the final round of the North Island Series at Taupo during Easter weekend.  Five of the South Island Series One cars are expected to travel north for this event and the possibility also of Hamish Collins bringing the only remaining south Island Pro 7 Plus car up for a run also.

Judging by the fiercely close racing experienced at Timaru, and if you remove the possible home track advantage, then the final round at Taupo looks to be spectacular.  Each of the drivers heading north are all capable of running in amongst the top of the north island field and that will lead to some breathtaking racing action.  It will all depend on how quickly the south Island guy’s can get to grips with the Taupo circuit.

New Zealand Pro 7 Championship positions after round one are:

1st        Jarrod Parmenter                 90 pts

2nd       Brent Collins                         72pts

3rd        Jason Corboy                       66pts

4th        Blair Robertson                    65 pts

5th        Mal Walters                           61pts

6th        Bob Smith                              59 pts

7th        Daniel Taylor                        58 pts

8th       Brad Lathrop                         54pts

9th        Matt Gibson                           49pts

Hampton Downs  5/6 March 2011

Hi All,

A great weekends racing at a new venue.  Well done.  Both categories provided some excellent racing throught the weekend.  It certainly seemed in the Pro7 class anyway, that the new venue really tightened up the competition, with very little between any of the competitors.

In the P7P group, the season long battles resumed in their now almost familiar two by two pattern.

Please make sure you get your entries in for Taupo in plenty of time.  There will be several extras competing there including as many as five from the southern island.  This is also the last round of our season so be aware that Stu may have some scrutineering requirements for you to comply with.  This shouldn't be a tedious task, as I'm sure that Stu will get his checks completed as efficiently as possible.

Also there is still room left for the south island round at Timaru on March 25/26.  Entries close on 14 March so there is still time to find a car Phill Blythe.

Keep well and see you all at Taupo.

 Regards

Terry Carkeek
