   Pro7 Plus Ready To Rock

Summer 2009 – 2010 will see a huge leap forward for Pro7 Plus with confirmed entries from at least 12 of the 21 cars on the Clubs register.

Nigel Hanley, club captain for the category has researched the progress of both complete and works in progress cars and has established that the recently consummated rule change that phases out the use of non series 6 engine rotors, replacing the existing rule that required Renesis rotors to be used, has rekindled the interest of a large number of intending competitors.

Whilst the use of Renesis rotors seemed like the logical way forward, Hanley discovered that preventing the use of the original low compression rotors added a cost factor that many had trouble dealing with. Pro7, whether it be Series One or Pro7 Plus is a cost containment formula cites Hanley. To require the complete rebuild of a standard S6 engine that was in good condition, delayed the race preparation and added an unnecessary cost burden. Track testing revealed that the gains from the Renesis rotor we so minimal that reverting to the original equipment was justified.

The very essence of Pro7 racing is driver ability rather than buying performance. Learning the art of car set up and translating that into improved lap times is what makes Pro7’s the most affordable tin top formula of circuit racing. As the history books show, some of the top drivers in MSNZ Championship categories have honed their skills in RX7’s, the elevated “Plus” category enables future drivers to progress as both budget and ability permit.

An interesting fact with RX7’s, according to John Clunie the Series Promoter, is the age span of drivers in this category. It has been proven that Pro7 racing is not successful by being a Rotary engine class, it is successful by being a tightly controlled one make driver category. Many of our drivers have been with the category since its early days, a healthy number are sub 25 year olds who are on a mission of self improvement and very competitive by nature, then we have a hard core group of 40 + adherents who “just wanna have fun”, add to the mix some Lady competitors who find that the racing experience builds confidence and allows them to share the renown social scene that is at the heart of the class.
