| Magnificent Manfeild - Round 4 | ||

|
23rd January 2010 - John Clunie |
|
|
This meeting was widely trumpeted as the first real McCoy IRC event offering all manner of attractions and publicity that our early “adopted meeting” rounds were not able to present. Julian Hardy had put his heart and soul, to say nothing of the budget Manawatu committed, to make an example of what the IRC as a combined force could achieve. And then it rained, and rained and rained some more. Read full story > |

It may have been a battle of the two Phil’s but the order was reversed. Qualifying on an overcast but fine day prevented ideal tyre temperatures and maybe Phil Kerr liked that as he immediately went about serving notice to Phil Blythe that this is a new year and he had been busy making resolutions. 1st November 2009 - John Clunie |

The measure of a successful meeting is best reflected by the mood of those involved as they leave for home. Qualifying chucked up a couple of surprises, Race one was universally applauded as a great start for the season, Race two destroyed the euphoria for some and Race 3 capped off an almost perfect event with clean close and exciting racing. Round one for those who have been around a while was pretty much as we have come to expect. Read full story > |

Parents know that there is something really special about the arrival of your first-born. For Pro7 parents this especially true because until then the baby was the racecar and late night vigils revolved around feeding and changing in the garage. For Leon this whole parenthood thing has been a journey of sheer amazement. From time to time over the last 9 months his topic of choice has been the pending baby, the progress, the antenatal classes and very recently the countdown. He lost our battle by the way; my Son won the race from womb to room, just. So you see that famous McKnight competitive spirit remains alive and well, just redirected to another of life’s journeys. Leyton Bruce McKnight, should look pretty good inscribed on one of our trophies in years to come. Congratulations Leon and Cheryl. Marriage proposal trackside, wedding date to avoid pro7 date clash, president as toastmaster and now first public announcement of newborn via our forum. If that’s not passion and commitment to the club I don’t know what is. |

As we count down to season 2009-1010 it’s becoming hard to keep up with all the happenings that bode well for the Summer Thunder Tour. What with new Tech Officers being born, congratulations Crunch and Laura on the birth of Finn McRae, good to know we have continuity for when that Zimmer frame renders you past it. Oh and by the way, really good that you produced a new born that is already big enough to pass as an adult, saves us having to create a kids pass to get him in. Read full story > |

A new initiative has been launched to create a Motorsport Carnival that will truly be “more than motorsport” Kicking off at Taupo during Labour weekend, the IRC Summer Tour will feature what used to be second tier motor racing with live action both on and off track. The planning has been done, the people are in place, the tracks are booked and the entertainment will extend beyond circuit action from 9 very different but well supported race categories. What is it with pronunciation, how do you get Gwinin from Guinon and Yeeoh from Yeo? Maybe Chris needs to write Guynon and David could try a simple Yo on their entry forms and put up with not officially entering a meeting but at least getting commentary that says their name correctly. The weather, well some people have their holidays late January to enjoy minimise being rained out. Qualifying at Taupo justified that logic, but it was fun and should have mixed the Race one grid up a bit. Read full race report here > |
